During ancient times in Africa, Griots would move from village to village as messengers, storytellers and newsbearers for the villagers who had no means of communication with the outside World. The Griot would communicate information, news and events they had learnt on their travels.
They were educators and entertainers for the village folk who held them in high esteem with great respect as spokesmen of their community. This was the blueprint for the Hip Hop MC before TV, Internet and social media transformed the MC into a billboard rapper. In 2012 we will celebrate and critique our past as we look to build a vibrant future.
